Nexus on course for most successful year in 10 year history [ 27-09-2006]

Nexus, an indigenous Aberdeen company providing technical supply chain consultancy services to the oil and gas industry, has announced the award of contracts worth several £million which will see the company boost its workforce by a third as it celebrates its tenth year in business.

Recently awarded contracts include the sale of a global licence to BP for access to Nexus’ internet based software system, the SoR (Statement of Requirements) process - a unique system that allows users to define their technical requirements for drilling and completions equipment online and interact with their suppliers throughout the design and manufacture process. The system has already been used successfully in some of BP’s European operations for the last 18 months. Nexus has been providing Quality Assurance services to BP’s North Sea operations since 1998. Norwegian operator, Statoil has also adopted the SoR system for a project based trial and Nexus is in negotiation with several other operators.

Nexus has also been awarded the initial phase of an 18 month contract by Shell U.K. Limited for the validation of the complex technical histories of over 700 oil wells on the UK Continental Shelf.

Founder and managing director of Nexus, Trevor Butler said: “The award of these contracts is a clear demonstration of the strength of our service portfolio which extends to practically every major player within the industry. The BP contract is very significant; here we have a multi-national adopting a process developed by ourselves for a business critical aspect of its worldwide operation. An equipment failure can potentially cost millions and we have an excellent track record in reducing this risk.

“We believe that the experience of the Nexus Assurance team in `forensic’ Quality Assurance may have been a key factor in Shell selecting our company for what is a detailed 3rd party verification of key aspects of the equipment content of its wells.

“Our 10 years in business has been an interesting and diverse journey as we have experimented with different ventures and business streams. Two years ago however, we took the strategic decision to concentrate 100% on our core business of technical assurance in the drilling and completions supply chain which has proved the winning formula for us, our customers and our employees. We are looking forward to the next 10 years.”

Nexus has offices in Aberdeen and Stavanger and is currently establishing a Houston base which will be operational by the end of this year.
