The paper based Statement of Requirements (SOR) process has
been in active use by Operator Wells Teams in Europe, Scandinavia
the Gulf of Mexico and key international projects since its
development for the BP ETAP field in 1996. In the original paper
form, the Nexus SOR system is used by operators such as Total,
Talisman, Shell and BP and is accepted as a common industry
process by all major equipment vendors.
SOR’s
are used to ensure effective communication of requirements
and risk mitigation within the Drilling, Completions and Well
Services supply chains and have proven to be extremely effective
in the reduction of Non Productive Time and Equipment Failure
Incidence while also streamlining the process of supply and
accurate fulfilment of requirements from key suppliers.
The SOR process involves three groups of people,
| |
|
Specifiers
Operator Well Engineers, responsible for defining the
Performance Criteria and Critical Well Factors for each
key piece of equipment required for the Well.
Suppliers
Vendor Engineers, responsible for the Identification
of equipment and materials which will meet the Performance
Criteria specified and which will function effectively
over the defined life-cycle of the Well.
Assurance Advisors
Competent 3rd party individuals, responsible for the
Assurance of effective communication & risk mitigation
in the process of supply and the verification of ‘fitness
for intended use’ at key pre-delivery milestones.
|
The SOR provides a single focal point for these groups throughout
the process of requirement definition, equipment identification
and final supply, containing technical information on the
well envelope and performance requirements, vendor parts lists
and manufacturing data together with all associated test,
QA and legislative compliance documentation.
In October 2004, Nexus launched an internet version of the
established paper based / manual SOR process, accessible to
subscribing organisations and Nexus clients at www.nexuscentral.com
The on-line version of the Nexus SOR system allows specifying
engineers to create new SOR’s from a library of equipment
templates, initially recording well conditions, performance
requirements and specifying the supplier. The system then
notifies the relevant Supplier representative of the presence
of a new SOR for their attention and the process is progressed
by the supplier entering details of the equipment which matches
the Statement of Requirements.
An Assurance Advisor is also notified of each newly assigned
SOR and works with the supplier to define the QA, Compliance
and Test Documentation required at each stage of the design,
manufacture, testing and deployment process.
Configured in this way, the Web-based version of the SOR
system allows all parties secure access to their own set of
SOR’s, providing a current status of work in progress
and an audit trail for equipment already supplied and run
in hole.
